Liberty HealthShare announced that more than $2 million will be returned to its members in May 2026 while reducing monthly share contributions for the second consecutive year.

At a time when healthcare costs across the United States continue to rise, this marks a notable shift in the opposite direction—lower costs and direct financial returns to members.

But what does this actually mean for members, and how is it possible?

Why Funds are Being Returned to Liberty HealthShare Members

Liberty HealthShare operates as a nonprofit healthcare sharing ministry, where members voluntarily share eligible medical expenses with one another.

Because of sustained membership growth and disciplined financial management, the excess funds can be returned directly to members.

This is also made possible by the careful stewardship of members in how they use healthcare services.

This approach reflects a core principle of healthcare sharing: contributions are intended to support other members in their time of need, not accumulate as retained earnings or dividends for shareholders.

Liberty HealthShare's unofficial mascot, Max, has some thoughts:

It is also grounded in the Christian values that define Liberty HealthShare. Members come together in a spirit of stewardship and generosity, sharing one another’s burdens and supporting each other in times of need.

What Members Can Expect in 2026

In practical terms, members will see three key blessings:

1. Direct Payments

More than $2 million will be distributed to members in May 2026. Eligible members will be mailed checks free of any stipulations.

The exact amounts of the distribution will vary depending on program and the type of membership.

2. Lower Monthly Share Contributions

Family contribution amounts for Liberty Essential, Liberty Connect, and Liberty Unite will decrease by an average of 16% effective June 1, 2026.

This marks the second consecutive year of monthly share reductions, following similar cost decreases and program enhancements in 2025.

3. Elimination of AUAs for Liberty Assist

The $500 Annual Unshared Amount for Liberty Assist, which was reduced from $1,500 to $500 last year, will be eliminated effective July 1, 2026.

Grounded in Christian values, Liberty HealthShare members come together in stewardship.

What Made These Reductions Possible

Liberty HealthShare has experienced 20 consecutive months of enrollment growth as of April 2026, reflecting continued demand for its healthcare sharing programs.

That growth, combined with disciplined financial management and member participation, has helped create the conditions for both returning funds and lowering monthly contributions.

Continued Improvements to Member Value

The 2026 updates build on changes made in 2025 to increase the value of Liberty HealthShare programs.

Liberty HealthShare continues to improve value for its members. Those improvements included:
    • A 25% increase in wellness visit expenses eligible for sharing
    • A doubling of amounts eligible for sharing for alternative treatments such as chiropractic, naturopathic, and acupuncture services
    • Monthly share reductions of up to $26 for Liberty Unite, Liberty Connect, and Liberty Essential
    • A 19% monthly share reduction for Liberty Rise
    • A $1,000 reduction in the Annual Unshared Amount for Liberty Assist

Together, these changes are part of an ongoing effort to improve affordability while maintaining a strong community-based approach to healthcare sharing.

An Alternative Approach in a Changing Healthcare Environment

As healthcare costs continue to rise nationwide, many individuals and families are exploring alternatives to insurance models.

Liberty HealthShare offers a different approach—one centered on voluntary sharing, transparency, and member stewardship. This community-centered model reflects a shared commitment to faith, stewardship, and caring for others.

“When many in the healthcare sector are increasing costs or reducing services, we are able to lower costs for our members while improving the value of their memberships,” Morrow said.
