These words were written during a horrific time of punishment on Israel for their disobedience against God. They experienced complete devastation and even death because of their waywardness and willful sinful behaviors. But then comes this moment.
The writer musters up the strength and hopefulness to remember what it was like to be in a healthy relationship with God. This is a turning point in Israel’s years of judgement and captivity. Things are about to get better.
A lot better.
There are four things we should always remember and never let go of. No matter how tough life is, or how discouraging our present circumstances, these four things are true about God. They were true, they are true, and they will always be true. Here are your reminders today:
The faithful love of the Lord never ends
His mercies never cease
Great is His faithfulness
His mercies begin afresh each morning
As you are reading this today, chances are that you can testify to God’s faithfulness in your life. All people on this planet receive His mercy in one form or the other. Even God’s judgements are merciful if they bring us back to Him.
Hymn writer Thomas Obediah Chisholm picked up this theme from the book of Lamentations and penned a now classic hymn. Why not make this your prayer of worship today:
