Jesus replied, "My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light."

John 12:35-36 (NLT)

Jesus was teaching the multitude of people that had come to hear Him and see Him do miracles. The words spoken above are an appeal for people to leave the darkness and walk in the light of His words.

There are only two ways to go through this life. You either walk in the light of God’s Word or you choose to walk in the darkness. We either follow Jesus and love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, or we reject Him and follow the gods of this world. The contrast between following Christ or following this world and the evil culture we live in has never been clearer and easy to see.

If you follow Him you will build your life on the Bible and its many commands, principles, and words of wisdom. If you follow this world you will walk the road of self-fulfillment and self-deception, and spend your life searching for answers in all the wrong places.

Some might call this life of following Christ living with a godly world view. In other words, we live our lives viewing life through the lens of scripture and biblical values. We define right and wrong by who God is.

  • We live by absolute truth, not relative truth. God is the source of our truth. He doesn’t change or adapt to society or to modern psychology.
  • We see scripturally and think theologically. We study the Scriptures and use them to guide us.
  • We love God and love others. We don’t condone other’s actions, nor do we condemn. God is the judge of all people.
How do we filter a secular world view through God’s truth?

When you feel bombarded by the world, filter your thoughts through Scripture. Just like an HVAC system filters dirt out of the air, our worldview filters out what the secular world is trying to make us believe.

1. In a secular worldview truth is relative, but God’s truth is absolute.

2. In a secular worldview feelings replace facts. In a Christian worldview emotions are a byproduct of truth.

3. In a secular worldview I glorify myself. In a Christian worldview I glorify God.

4. In a secular worldview I seek happiness. In a Christian worldview I seek holiness.

I encourage you to be a man or woman of light. Flee the darkness and accept Christ's invitation to put your trust in the light. Remember, Jesus is the light of the world.
