Liberty HealthShare isn't for everyone, and that's by design. As a healthcare sharing ministry rooted in Christian tradition, membership is built around a shared faith and a shared commitment to healthy living. Paying a monthly contribution isn't what makes someone a good Liberty HealthShare member; agreeing to walk alongside a community that shares those convictions is. Here's what prospective members should know before applying.
Joining means affirming the same faith commitments the ministry itself is built on: that Jesus Christ is the source of salvation, that a person's life should visibly reflect the Fruits of the Spirit, and that regular worship and prayer are part of daily practice. It also means taking seriously the biblical instruction to "share one another's burdens" from Galatians 6:2, as that verse is the theological foundation the entire sharing model rests on.
Beyond those personal commitments, applicants are asked to affirm a broader set of shared convictions: that rights and liberties come from God rather than from government, that individuals have a religious right to worship according to Scripture, that helping others in need is both a biblical and ethical obligation, and that healthcare decisions belong with the individual, in consultation with their own physicians and family, rather than with outside authorities.
Because the ministry treats physical health as a matter of stewardship rather than just personal preference, members agree to steer clear of tobacco in every form, including vaping; to handle alcohol according to biblical teaching rather than to excess; and to abstain from illegal drugs or the misuse of prescription medication. Regular exercise and eating in a way that supports good health round out the expectation. These standards aren't just a formality at sign-up. The Liberty HealthShare community doesn't share expenses tied to behaviors it considers destructive to personal health, therefore living within these standards has a real bearing on what ends up eligible for sharing down the road.
Yes. The faith and lifestyle standards apply across every Liberty HealthShare program, but some programs layer on their own criteria. Liberty Rise is built specifically for young adults between 18 and 29. Liberty Assist is only open to members 65 and older who are already enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. The remaining programs, Liberty Freedom, Liberty Essential, Liberty Connect, and Liberty Unite are organized around different age brackets and household sizes rather than a separate set of qualifications.
Chief Executive Officer Dorsey Morrow has described this less as a tension to manage and more as the whole point. "Our primary focus is getting the Gospel message out there through healthcare and how our members are able to do that," Morrow has said. "If we can deliver that message and somebody says, 'Oh, that's an interesting concept. How do I get to be a part of that?' That opens the door for, well, let's talk about being a Christian and what that means."
The most direct way is to review Liberty HealthShare's full Do I Qualify page, which lays out the Christian standards, shared beliefs, and lifestyle expectations in detail, along with the enrollment application itself.
