But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”
I wonder what God has in mind for you to do for Him in this coming year. God often calls His faithful followers to engage tasks that are beyond our ability to do on our own. We serve a God that often calls the unlikely to do the unthinkable. He calls the improbable to do the impossible.
Moses felt this in every way. He offered lots of excuses. God was calling. It was dramatic as He spoke to Moses from a burning bush and yet he couldn’t get over himself and his weaknesses.
But Moses protested again, “What if they won’t believe me or listen to me?" Exodus 4:1 (NLT).
But Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled,” Exodus 4:10 (NLT).
But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else,” Exodus 4:13 (NLT).
Moses pushed back so much and so often that we are told it angered God. All of us may at times be filled with our own insecurities. We may even have certain inferior notions about our self-worth, but when God chooses you and calls you the best answer is not “Who am I?” The best answer is "Yes!"
When God first called to him from the burning bush, He called him by name, and Moses answered “Here I am.” After forty years in hiding and obscurity on the backside of the desert, it had to be shocking to think that God would have something for him to do. He was eighty years old, but God called him. He was unknown and a long way from home, but God called him. He had spent forty years running from a public sin, but God called him. If God is calling you, drop the excuses and attach yourself to His power and purpose. Let go of who you are and believe in the call of God and who He is. Go in faith. Never trust yourself, but trust God and He will lead you.
What do I need to know? I need to know God and His voice.
What do I need to be? I need to always be available even when the call has been long in coming.
What do I need to do? I need to do what God calls me to do with confidence in the One who is calling.
