“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”
This time of year, our minds turn toward the giving and accumulation of things. Family members began asking for lists of gifts you might like to receive. You may begin thinking about what gifts you are going to give to others.
Sometimes people are fueled by their passion for collecting things. There is a thrill in finding some elusive collectable and there is the excitement of the hunt. We enjoy sharing the stories of our stuff with others who will take the time to see what we have and we really love it when they ask questions. Depending on your budget, there is something for almost everyone to collect or own.
The writer of this scripture simply reminds us to not allow anything or anyone to distract our heart, mind, and soul away from our relationship with God. People, money, and things can sometimes call for our attention and allure us away from what matters most.
There is nothing in this world more valuable than your soul. Invest in its health. Protect your soul. Guard your heart. Pay attention to where, who, and what you have made priorities in your life. Why not to a moment today to pause, ask, and allow God to examine your heart. Is there anything or anyone that is blurring your allegiance?
Nothing or no one in this world is worth losing your soul over.
Pledge and profess your love for Christ today.
