The Day Jesus' Heart Overflowed | Liberty HealthShare Devotionals

Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him. A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow's only son, and a large crowed from the village was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. "Don't cry!" he said. Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. "Young man," he said, "I tell you, get up." Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.

Luke 7:11-15 (NLT)

Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to save us from our sins and give us eternal life. His love for us is immeasurable. This story is filled with emotion. The emotions of a grieving mother over the loss of her precious son and the emotions of the large crowd. Mourning in the Middle East is often the sound of wailing and weeping.

The funeral procession intersected with a large group of people following Jesus and His disciples. Then we read these amazing words, “his heart overflowed with compassion.” Jesus has always had compassion toward us. That’s what led Him to come to this earth and die on a cross. It is encouraging to read that His heart overflowed with compassion.

Remember the bible tells us that Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father and makes intercession for us. He is praying for you and me. He is aware of every burden you are carrying and is asking the Father to help you. Thank Him today for His compassion and mercy. Even when things are at their worst He cares deeply for you. No, we don’t always get the answers to prayer we desire but know that Jesus is for you and can be touched by your needs and concerns.

His heart is overflowing with compassion for you today. Be blessed by this thought. Be encouraged by this care that He has for and you toward you.
