The argument could be made that there is no time more exciting than welcoming new life into the world! When your family is growing, the last thing that you want to worry about is the medical costs that come with your new little bundle of joy! The Liberty HealthShare community loves babies, so you can rest assured that there are opportunities for support as you celebrate the birth of your kiddos. Now is the perfect time to find out some answers to the questions surrounding the sharing of eligible maternity expenses with Liberty HealthShare!
If you are a member of Liberty Rise, Liberty Freedom, or Liberty Assist, then maternity related expenses are not eligible for sharing under any circumstances. The opportunity for sharing of maternity related expenses is only available to members of Liberty Essential, Liberty Connect, and Liberty Unite. Additionally, mothers and families seeking the opportunity to share their eligible maternity expenses must be enrolled in one of the three eligible programs for six months prior to conception.
With this timeline in mind, it is important for members to notify the Liberty HealthShare prenotification department of the current date of conception to establish eligibility as early as possible upon learning of pregnancy. Even better, a Care Navigation Facilitator is available to assist you in locating providers and facilities who participate in the PHCS Network and are therefore more likely to accept fair and
While we’re on the subject of sharing eligibility, what is or isn’t shareable? Doctor or midwife visits, labs, ultrasounds, other needed prenatal care, delivery at a hospital, birth center, or home with a certified provider, medically necessary C-sections, complicated deliveries requiring additional care, and up to 2 lactation visits in the hospital prior to discharge are all eligible for sharing in terms of maternity expenses. Medical care for the baby, including NICU care (which requires prenotification, so be sure to call right away!), circumcision, and care related to birth defects due to birth complications are shareable for your newborn if you have added them to your membership within 60 days of birth. On the other side of the coin doula services, birthing tubs or kits for home births, breast pumps, or genetic testing are not eligible for sharing. As always, refer to the Liberty HealthShare Sharing Guidelines for more information about sharing eligibility!
Now here’s something important to know about sharing of eligible maternity expenses: these expenses are eligible for sharing after the delivery date, up to $125,000 per pregnancy (whether for single or multiple births) and subject to the Annual Unshared Amount. Additionally, keep in mind that if your annual membership renewal date falls during your pregnancy, you may have to meet your Annual Unshared Amount twice before expenses are eligible for sharing. Many providers will offer global billing, bundling all obstetric services, into one single charge. In that case, ask your provider about their self-pay rates, ideally after you have confirmed if they accept fair and reasonable pricing. Again, call your Care Navigation Facilitator for help navigating these processes, and doing so may look a little bit different than submitting another eligible medical expense for sharing!
As a Liberty HealthShare member you matter more to your community than just a number, and this belief extends to the care that you receive from the staff at Liberty HealthShare. Always call with any questions, and our team will be more than happy to help you!
