Do you ever feel like you are living on the edge? The Holmes Brothers recorded a song several years ago entitled “Edge of the Ledge.” The lyrics include these lines:
Standin' on my head at the edge of the ledge.
Tryin' to figure out how to keep my family fed.
Lost my job and they even repossessed my bed.
Standin' on my head at the edge of the ledge.
Everything was good, everything was fine.
Not a lick of trouble, never crossed my mind.
I was flyin' high, like a bird up in the sky.
Now I've come down, my money said bye, bye, bye.
So many times, the edge we live on seems to be based on our financial freedom or, to put it practically, the “money in our pocket.” There are many other things that cause us to be on the edge.
Maybe you are living on the edge of fear. Maybe the fear in your life is being alone, or an illness that you are dealing with currently. You might be on the edge of depression.
The bottom line is that you know what it is to feel like you are on the edge. Being on the edge doesn’t mean you have to jump off or feel pushed off by circumstances out of your control.
What did Jesus have to say about this? He said:
“Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me,” in John 14:1.
He told a father with a troubled son, “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. ‘Anything is possible if a person believes,’” in Mark 9:23.
Jesus knows where and what we are always living with and what it is going on in our lives. Talk to Him. You don’t need fancy words or flowery speech. Speak to Him as you would talk to someone in front of you. He will listen and He will help you through whatever is on your mind. It might be a journey, but He will not forsake you if you stick with Him.
