Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:1-3 NLT
Avoid this: Avoid following the advice of ungodly people or even joining in the negative activities that they may engage in. This is not saying Christians should never be around non-Christians. It is, I believe, clearly stating that there are some lines that, if crossed, will be devastating to our own faith.
Add this: Delight in God’s word! Meditate on it day and night. The Word of God is a powerful force that can help all of us on a daily basis. The Bible says we should “hide it in our heart.” It’s not about how many chapters you read a day; you can take a phrase or a verse, and let it speak and work in your heart and mind on a daily basis.
Maybe today you can make this your prayer: “Today Lord, help me to delight in your law and meditate on it day and night.”
Attain this: “They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” What a promise and metaphor! Trees are always stronger growing along the water source. Prospering in all we do is not about money but even the poorest of the poor flourish when they abide in the presence of the Lord daily. Our lives prosper in the things that matter most.
“Restlessness and impatience change nothing except our peace and joy. Peace does not dwell in outward things, but in the heart prepared to wait trustfully and quietly on Him who has all things safely in His hands.” ― Elisabeth Elliot
